Basically, it's like the X-Files but more science-oriented. Although I hesitate to say even that, because it really isn't anything like the X-Files. That's rather like comparing CSI to Law & Order.
As far as I know, however, it only airs in the US (but the season 1 DVD set might be available in Europe).
I don't know if you're familiar with John Noble or Joshua Jackson, but they both portray main characters on the show.
